Transit Calculator

Rail transit is scheduled, not on-demand — so the honest number includes the wait for the next departure. Pick a corridor and a payload to see transit, rate band and the emissions comparison against road.

How these numbers are built

Door-ready estimate
Scheduled transit plus half the gap between departures, which is the average wait if your cargo becomes ready at a random moment. On a corridor running twice a week that wait can exceed a day and a half — bigger than the difference between competing services, and the figure a road-versus-rail comparison usually omits.
Emissions
Payload × distance × the corridor's gCO₂ per tonne-kilometre, against a road benchmark of 62 g. Electrified corridors on low-carbon grids come out far ahead of diesel-hauled ones, which is why the figure varies so much between networks. GLEC v3 methodology, planning grade — not a regulatory declaration.
Road comparison
Distance ÷ 700 km per day, a typical long-haul figure once drivers' hours are respected. Rail usually loses on short hauls and wins as distance grows.
Rate band
A corridor benchmark range for a 40-ft equivalent, stored as a range precisely so it cannot be mistaken for a quote. Live rate sourcing is not connected yet.
